Curing Vs Healing

by | Dec 5, 2022

So let’s get it straight, you can cure an illness without healing, and heal without curing. But to cure and heal one’s self…now my friend you have the ultimate outcome.

Curing: is to eradicate, banish and eliminate all symptoms and evidence of a disease or illness. That takes place in the physical body. An example of curing is when you go to the doctors to have a broken bone set or surgery to remove cancer cells.

Healing: is to make whole, in the mind, body and spirit. To heal is to acknowledge then release the underlying stressors and lifestyle imbalances that initially caused the illness. Healing is a journey that requires deep soul searching work. 80% of healing is getting to the root of the problem and letting go of all negative emotions and beliefs that masked the true self. For example, a person suffering with high blood pressure will take prescription medication to cure them of the symptoms; but the hypertension diagnosis will remain. In order to completely reverse the diagnosis and heal, they must also address their stressors, negative beliefs, and ideologies which is the cause for their poor lifestyle choices and habits that feeds the illness.

If you know my story, then you know that I healed myself of hypertension and several other illnesses using Complementary Alternative Medical (CAM) practices, without medication but with monitoring support from my doctor.

Now, let me put out this disclaimer: It is important that you ALWAYS consult a professional medical practitioner for diagnosing, monitoring and treating any diseases or ailments. Do not use CAM practices to replace your medical treatment.
The goal is to cure and heal, optimizing the best of both worlds.

Ok, back to my story. Based on my Christian upbring, I’ve learned that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image which is also confirmed through my biology/pre-medical studies in undergrad. The human body is so amazingly designed. Our DNA encodes natural defenses to help us: survive danger through the sympathetic nervous system (aka Fight or Flight Response); our white blood cells fight off threatening bacteria and viruses; it detoxifies itself daily; and rest via the parasympathetic nervous system so that our cells can regenerate and replace themselves every 7 to 10 years.

You’re in AWE aren’t you? I know because I am too. The best part about it is that the mind and body are in constant communication and synchronized together.
In other words, if the body is under attack, the mind can sendout reinforcement to help physically heal the body, through positive healing thoughts, making healthier lifestyle choices and seeking support.

“What a person thinks, so is he or she.” – Proverbs 23

There are 3 tips I would like to share with you that I used to help heal my diseases:

#1 Develop a growth mindset. A mind that is constantly learning, welcoming and accepting of changes and challenges is a mind that is full of hope and peace.
#2 Set an intention of how you want to live your life each and every day.
#3 Put your thoughts into action by making as many healthy choices as you can and grant your self grace and mercy when you don’t make the best choices.

Now of course, there are times when the body can not be cured of a disease. It is life. However, the person can still be made whole by accepting the diagnosis and choosing to live in peace and harmony with the disease. This is healing, to accept all that the world has for you to experience in this lifetime.
